Here's the story that confirms why people hate car dealerships...

For reference, a few posts ago I said the S5 I sold was returned because it was “profusely leaking oil.” I was told that we’d take it to our mechanic and we’d handle it.

My guy in the dealer who knows all told me, since my GM and boss are leaving me out in the dark, told me it’s a $2000 fix...but they’re doing some cheap $400 fix and hope it lasts until our warranty is dead.

I’m honestly considering just telling my guy the honest truth...because there’s no way I’m okay with any of this

That is so crooked. I’m not surprised, and I’ve assumed similar situations. It’s still angering to hear about. PPI or die.

I need to know what the issue was and the fixes to confirm with Audi before we assume the “I hate dealers, they are ALL the same” pitchfork party.

I know of 2 to 3 scenarios like this that are justified with the 4 brands we deal with here if I explain them to you trust me, even if I get super technical.

I’m sure AMGtech, Takuro, and TFitch know of some also

Lol first off, what did the customer smash it into? This is waaay too common. Customer complains of a leak and “forgets” to mention the thing they struck or not aware of the debris that may have cause it.

Is it a hairline crack, seal/gasket, or the typical giant hole? Is the splash shield ok?

I’d make the customer pay for it honestly. But if the shop is eating it (both parts and labor), I’d let them try to find a fix before dumping a bunch of money into a car.

At best, tell the customer it wasn’t an Audi defect and something caused the oil pan to leak in their hands and give them X amount discount on the repair. It’s a high mileage used car. Unless you want to be married to the car, that’s how it’s going to be trust me. They are free to take it somewhere else if they want.

I agree with EL_ULY. If the car is too high mile to offer an extended warranty, and it wasn’t caused by a known defect before the time of sale, then the best your shop should do is offer to HELP with the repair.

It falls under my dealers 30 day/1000 warranty

But is that funded by any outside source? Or are repairs dealt with in house from some type of account set aside for repairs such as these?

Now I know why a $2000 repair is being “done” for $400.

yea...something tells me there is more to this story then ‘it just started leaking’

the kind of person that buys a high milage S5 that, as you state, had no leaks, and is suddenly ‘profusely’ leaking...me thinks someone tried to drifto his new AWD toy and found a nice rock or a curb.

I’m with those other two guys. Big leaks don’t just appear in oil pans unless they’re hit. They start small usually. So unless no one at all inspected this thing before sale chances are the customer did something to cause this. I know dealers get a bad rap, but honestly customers try to screw us all the time. Why can’t we all just get along?!
